05:38 UK Β· Update
π Gold up 1.0% today Β· now $3,916.00
+$39 since the close on Fri 30 Oct
Why it moved (π’ bullish news for gold):
π’ Trump favours Iran diplomacy before midterm elections, oil falls
π’ Iran-Qatar talks seek to end US-Iran war, oil prices fall more than 1%
π‘ Lower oil from easing Gulf tensions reduces inflation pressure and rate-rise odds, which usually helps gold.

βοΈ Mon 2 Nov Β· βͺ MIXED for gold
Gold about $3,910, up about $37 since Friday's close.
A one-year low on Friday, then a bounce as oil fell.
π° What happened
π’ Overnight: gold climbed from about $3,879 to $3,920 as oil fell about 3%.
Talks in Qatar on reopening the Strait of Hormuz went on all weekend.
Cheaper oil gives the Fed less reason to raise, which helps gold.
π΄ Fri 30 Oct: gold fell about 3.6% to about $3,875, a one-year low.
Tech shares tumbled (Nasdaq down 2.9%), so some investors sold gold to raise cash.
Bets on more US rate rises added to the fall.
π΄ Fri 30 Oct: Dallas Fed's Lorie Logan, a rate voter, wants at least two more rate rises.
Talk like that keeps borrowing costs up, not what gold wants.
βͺ Weekend: more tankers were hit in the Gulf.
But Iran says it could reopen within two days if the US meets its conditions.

π Gold lesson
When shares crash, gold can fall too.
Investors who borrowed to buy shares must raise cash fast. They sell what is easy to sell, gold included.
Once that forced selling stops, rates, the dollar and fear take over again.

ADNOC chief says the Strait of Hormuz disruption has drained nearly 1 billion barrels from global oil inventories
Why: A billion-barrel drawdown from the strait disruption suggests severe tightness in oil markets. Higher oil prices add inflation pressure, giving the Fed more reason to raise, which hurts gold.

β’ The pound rose as the dollar slipped on bets that US and Iran diplomacy will succeed
β’ Iranians left the Doha talks and a draft proposal for a US deal is being passed around

β‘ π’ Gold up about 1.7%: Iran moves closer to talks
Gold is about $3,940, up about $65 since Friday's close.
Most of the jump came after 13:30 UK.
π° What happened
π’ 13:30 UK: Iran's President Pezeshkian said the Supreme Leader has given the government authority to negotiate.
That's the clearest sign yet that Tehran wants a deal.
π’ Earlier today: oil fell about 4% on hopes the US and Iran end the conflict, and the dollar slipped.
π‘ Why that helps gold
Peace talks can bring oil prices down.
Cheaper oil means less pressure on prices, so the Fed has less reason to raise rates.
That usually helps gold.
π΄ But it's not done
Minutes later, Pezeshkian said Iran rejects the US's "excessive demands".
So talks could still stall, and oil could jump again.

π Gold up 2.0% today Β· now $3,954.50
+$78 since the close on Fri 30 Oct
Why it moved (π’ bullish news for gold):
π’ Dollar index broke below key technical support levels amid bearish momentum.
π’ Brent crude oil dropped 4% as hope grows for US-Iran war resolution.
π‘ A weaker dollar makes gold cheaper in other currencies, and lower oil eases inflation pressure on the Fed.

β’ Iran threatens to hit US bases in Europe if the US launches new airstrikes, the Times says
β’ Brent oil futures fall over 8 dollars a barrel on hopes the Iran war efforts will make progress
π‘ What it means: More US strikes on Iran could push oil prices up and keep US interest rates high, which is bad for gold. But oil has just fallen sharply on hopes the fighting will ease, which helps gold a little.

β‘ βͺ MIXED for gold Β· πΊπΈ US factory survey (ISM) Β· π₯π₯ MEDIUM
π Mon 2 Nov, 15:00 UK / 10:00 New York
What happened
Factory survey: 55.5 (expected 54.6)
Above 50 = factories growing. Stronger than expected.
Prices factories pay: 75.2 (expected 77.0)
Cooler than expected, down from 77.9.
Why it matters
Busier factories give the Fed more reason to raise rates, which usually weighs on gold.
Smaller factory price rises mean less inflation ahead. A small help for gold.
The two pulls roughly cancel.
Gold
About $3,958 at 15:02 UK / 10:02 New York.
Up about $83 on the day.
Most of that came before the survey, mainly as oil fell on Iran diplomacy hopes.

π³οΈ Midterms and gold: what happened the last 4 times
The US votes on Tue 3 Nov. So what did gold do after the last four midterm elections?
2010: day after down 0.4% Β· a month later up 2.8%
2014: day after down 2.1% Β· a month later up 3.6%
2018: day after up 0.1% Β· a month later up 0.9%
2022: day after up 0.1% Β· a month later up 5.2%
What stands out
π’ All 4 times, gold was higher a month later, and higher by the end of the year.
βͺ The day after was mixed: one small dip, one bigger dip, two flat days.
But the vote didn't do the lifting. Something else did, each time:
β’ 2010: the Fed started a big bond-buying plan the day after the vote.
β’ 2014: a strong dollar pushed gold to a 4-year low that week. It bounced back in December.
β’ 2018: stocks slid in December, and gold rose.
β’ 2022: cooler US inflation data two days after the vote sent gold sharply higher.
The lesson: the result itself rarely moves gold much. What comes next does: the Fed, the dollar and inflation.
Four elections is a small sample. History is a guide, not a promise.

π Gold closed Β· Mon 2 Nov Β· $3,947, up 1.8%
Up $71, bouncing from a one-year low on Fri 30 Oct.
What happened
β’ Oil fell in the morning on Iran-Qatar talks over Hormuz
β’ Iran's president said the government now has more power to negotiate
β’ World oil (Brent) closed at $104.77, down 7.6%
β’ 15:00 UK / 10:00 New York: US factory survey (ISM) hit 55.5. Over 50 = growing
Why it matters
π’ BULLISH for gold.
Cheaper oil eases the fear of stickier prices.
That gives the Fed less reason to raise rates, which helps gold.
Strong factories pull the other way, but the survey's prices part cooled.
